When you walk out the door of First United Methodist Church, a sign overhead reads, "You are now entering the mission field." This reminds us that our Lord commissions us to serve in local, regional, national, and world-wide missions.
Locally, we are actively involved in the Salvation Army soup kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and others all of which are ecumenical ministries that care for the needy in our community. We also stock a food closet at the church where people in need can get food on an emergency basis.
All age levels participate in our annual Great Day of Service. The children focus on missions as part of their Sunday School and Vacation Bible School projects. Each summer, our Junior and Senior High youth travel to sites as near as Memphis or Louisville or as far away as Costa Rica to work on mission projects.
We actively support missions throughout our budget, our study, and our volunteers. We realize that an important part of our life as Christians is serving, and First Church provides many opportunities for us to serve in the mission field.
